Green Card Lottery Requirements DV2020. This years Green Card Lottery, the DV-2020 Diversity Visa Lottery is open to all individuals world-wide until November 8, 2018. Any applicant that wishes to enter this immigration program must first pass two basic immigration entry requirements:
1. DV2020 applicants must be native of a Qualifying Country to Enter the Green Card Lottery
Before any applicant can enter the DV-2020 Green Card Lottery they must be born in a qualifying country. Qualifying countries are defines as countries with low immigration rates to the US. If an applicant was born in a country with a high US immigration rate they would be excluded from the DV Lottery. Below is a list that details the countries whose natives are currently excluded from participating in the Green Card Lottery. Eligibility is sole determined by country of birth, not by country of citizenship or country of residence. This is the most common misconception and will get you disqualified. As the list of qualifying countries changes each year, check back every year to see if your country might qualify next year.
Green Card Lottery Requirements DV2020
If you are a native of one of the following countries, then you are excluded from entering the DV2020 Green Card Lottery program this year:
- China (mainland only)
- Dominican Republic
- El Salvador
- South Korea
- United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland)
Note that United Kingdom includes the following dependent areas: Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Pitcairn, St. Helena, and Turks and Caicos Islands. Northern Ireland does qualify.
Persons born in the Gaza Strip are chargeable to Egypt for the DV2020 Green Card Lottery this year.
Persons born in Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and Taiwan are also eligible to enter the DV2020 Lottery.
Natives from all other countries may register for the DV2020 Green Card Lottery.
Be Aware that you may still qualify even if you were born in a non-qualifying country
Applicants that were born in a none-qualifying country may still be able to enter the DV2020 Green Card Lottery based on the native country of their parents or spouse:

To enter the DV2020 immigration visa program, you must meet at lease one of the two requirements listed below (Option 1 or Option 2):
To qualify for the DV2020 Lottery, an applicant must have completed a US High School degree or a foreign equivalent of US High School degree “High School Degree or its equivalent” means the successful completion of at least 12 year course of elementary and secondary education in the US or successful completion in another country of a formal course of elementary and secondary education comparable to complete a 12 year education in the U.S. Passage of a high school equivalency examination is not sufficient. It is permissible to have completed one’s education in less than 12 years or greater than 12 years if the course of study completed is equivalent to a US High School Degree; or
To qualify for the DV2020 Lottery, an applicant must have worked in at least one of the following occupations for at least 2 years within the last 5 years:

Applicants should not to submit proof that they satisfy these Green Card Lottery Requirements when registering for the DV2020 Lottery, but proof must be provided and will be required by a consular officer when the applicant formally applies for the permanent residence visa. If you do not meet these two basic requirements, you should not apply for the DV2020 Lottery as you will get disqualified if you do. You will be required to provide proof of your education, and/or your work experience and your country of birth after you have been selected. Of the same reason, you are not required to submit this information now in the registration form for the Green Card Lottery.
